OUR WORK

ADVOCACY

Katie’s Hear to Help not only tries to provide funding for hearing aids, but also tries to change the landscape that has made them so expensive. We have lobbied the Indiana legislature on multiple occasions to advocate for the creation or resources for deaf and hard of hearing populations.

Our successful efforts include:

2010

Successfully lobbied Indiana state legislature to get HB 1311 passed, a state funded plan to pay for hearing aids for children. It did not get funded in the budget hearing.

2012

Successfully lobbied for the creation of HB 1367 to create the Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education in Indiana.

2014

Successfully lobbied for a Summer Study to be conducted on the benefits of hearing aid legislation

2015

Successfully lobbied to fund the 2010 HB 1311, and are currently awaiting implementation of funded plan.

HEARING AID PURCHASES

We help needy families cover the cost of hearing aid purchases. We also provide funding for ear molds to fit those hearing aids.

HEARING AID FITTINGS, EXAMS, AND OTHER EQUIPMENT

We help provide funding for hearing aid exams and fittings. We partner with local audiologist Susan Rardin of Hear Here to provide essential services for hard of hearing children. We have also helped to provide hearing aid batteries, testing, ear molds, FM systems, transportation to audiologists, and hearing aid repairs.

INDIVIDUAL CHILD SUPPORT

Katie’s Hear To Help has been able to advocate for children throughout Indiana schools.  We have helped ensure that children who are deaf & hard of hearing have appropriate placement, services and accommodations in the classroom.
